I love doing intro tracks to my broadcast reels.
This one features me and John Lee, a voice actor with whom I’ve collaborated many times who also happens to be the father of the lead singer of Evanescence. :)

I wrote this spot for ZZZQuil, which is basically NyQuil without the cold medicine.
I’ve always been a fan of spots that don’t seem like radio commercials at the beginning–it helps to prevent the listener from tuning out.

Appliance Parts Company has a number of retail stores in Hawaii.
I wrote this as a campaign designed to persuade listeners to visit the store–your stoves and fridges will last longer,
and you won’t have to be pay a repairman to come fix it.

True story: the client had just seen the Budweiser Frogs TV spots (Google it) and insisted his resort needed something exactly like that.
No self-respecting creative wants to copy the work of another creative, especially one that millions of people have seen or heard.
I went on record by voicing my opposition to this idea; the client went on record by saying “too bad; write it anyway.”
So, I wrote this spot about talking cows. Given the situation, I actually think it turned out pretty good.

Believe it or not, the first talking cow radio spot was a big hit for Molokai Ranch. So, the client wanted more.
I’m sure everyone who heard it thought we were ripping off the talking lizards from Budweiser, but as long as it got people to the resort, everybody was happy.
And, in all candor, I liked writing and producing them, which is why they’re still on my reel.

This was the first radio campaign I ever wrote. The client: Hawaii Opera Theatre.
At the time, I thought having sports announcers do a play-by-play of something sports announcers would never do was a very novel idea.
It’s probably been done a thousand times since then. But I always liked my writing on this campaign.

Each spot featured an opera that would soon be playing.
I went with the sports announcer concept because the client wanted to attract a younger audience to the theatre.

The Polynesian Cultural Center is the largest tourist attraction on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
They also like to cram way too much information in their radio spots.
So I created Culture Man, a radio host, in order to build a concept around all the info they wanted in the spots.
